Cloudcroft, NM – During the New Mexico Counties (NMC) Board of Directors meeting on Friday, August 7, 2020, in Cloudcroft and on Zoom, the Board elected new leadership. They assumed their responsibilities upon adjournment of the Board meeting.
The new officers of NMC are President Otero County Assessor Steve Boyle, President Elect Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover, Vice President Valencia County Commissioner Jhonathan Aragon, and Past President Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage. Each officer will serve a one-year term. Mr. Boyle’s initiative as president will be to promote “CCR” or “Communication, Collaboration, and Respect” among all county members. These individuals were chosen by their peer elected officials as ideal candidates to represent all 33 counties in New Mexico.
“The new lineup of New Mexico Counties’ officers is very impressive and diverse,” said Executive Director Steve Kopelman. “Our new President, Steve Boyle, is an Assessor; President Elect Linda Stover is a Clerk; Vice President Jhonathan Aragon is a Commissioner; and National Association of Counties board representative Laura Montoya is a Treasurer. Two are Democrats and two are Republicans. Moreover, our Immediate Past President Mark Cage is a Sheriff,” Kopelman continued. “This strong and robust team will lead New Mexico Counties forward in the many challenges facing county governments!”
Board members also elected the following individuals to serve on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board and the NMC Executive Committee: Serving a remaining term through the end of 2020 is NACo Board representative Sandoval County Treasurer Laura Montoya; Serving a two-year term on the Executive Committee are District One Representative Santa Fe County Commissioner Henry Roybal, District Three Representative Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover, and District Five Representative Luna County Commissioner Linda Smrkovsky. District One provides representation on behalf of Los Alamos, McKinley, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Juan, and Santa Fe Counties, District Three provides representation on behalf of Bernalillo, Catron, Cibola, Socorro, and
Valencia Counties, and District Five provides representation on behalf of Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra Counties.
