Combined programs give as much as $550 of energy assistance to New Mexicans most in need

(Albuquerque, N.M.) – The New Mexico Human Services Department energy assistance program and the PNM Good Neighbor Fund program are working together to help low-income families with as much as $550 to pay their electric bill.

“The need for electricity in your home during a pandemic is critical, especially with online schooling in full swing, keeping cool during the heat of the summer, and so many people still working from home,” said Maddie Martinez-Vega, PNM low income program manager.  “Getting behind on your electric bill while you are already struggling can be worrisome or even overwhelming but there is assistance available right now that can help low income families in just five days but they must work with both the state’s LIHEAP program and the PNM Good Neighbor Fund program to get the most amount of money.”

The New Mexico Human Services Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (commonly known as LIHEAP) is there to keep families safe and healthy by helping with energy costs. The PNM Good Neighbor Fund provides additional help to low-income families paying their PNM bill. Neither requires you to be in-person.

Follow the 2-step process to get the maximum amount of utility bill assistance:

  1. Contact the New Mexico Human Services Department for the LIHEAP energy assistance program in the safety and convenience of your own home at www.yes.state.nm.us/yesnm. LIHEAP can help you with more than $400 towards your utilities and is processed in approximately 3-days.
  2. Contact the PNM Good Neighbor Fund at 844-378-5792 to get another $150 towards your electric bill.  It’s processed in about 2-days.

Assistance through these programs only available while it lasts, so follow the 2-step process right away.
