Dona Ana County, NM– On August 15, 2020 at about 2:30 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal head-on crash on North Valley Drive near Vilitta Loop, north of Las Cruces, NM.  

The initial investigation indicated a 2001 Oldsmobile, driven by a twenty-eight-year-old male of Las Cruces, NM was traveling north on North Valley Drive. For unknown reasons the Oldsmobile crossed over the double center line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on into a 2017 Honda that was traveling south. The driver of the Oldsmobile sustained unknown injuries and he was transported by ambulance to the Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. A passenger in the Oldsmobile, Haley Skufca (27) of Las Cruces, NM sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Skufca was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. 

The driver of the Honda, a seventy-year-old female from El Paso, TX sustained unknown injuries in the crash, and she was transported to the Mountain View Regional Medical Center.  She was later flown by air to the University Medical Center in El Paso, TX. 

There were two other female passengers in the Honda at the time of the crash, a forty-seven-year-old and a forty-nine-year-old. Both passengers were out of El Paso, TX and both sustained unknown injuries. The forty-seven-year-old was flown by air from the scene to the University Medical Center in El Paso, TX.  The forty-nine-year-old was transported by ambulance to the Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM.       

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have not been utilized properly. This crash still remains under investigation. New Mexico State Police Reconstruction Unit and Aerial Drone Team assisted in the crash investigation.  No additional information is available.
