The East Well Fire located near Claunch, NM in Socorro County is now estimated at 634 acres. No structures are threatened. Firefighters have been successful in holding containment lines on the south end of the fire. Today, they will prep the west side of the fire in anticipation of burnout operations on Monday (08/24) depending on favorable weather conditions.

Approximately 55 personnel are fighting the fire with additional resources en route. Current resources include the Bureau of Land Management (BLM Socorro), USDA Forest Service (USFS) Mountainair Ranger District, Ruidoso Fire Department, McKinley County Fire Department, and Sandoval County Fire Department.
