THE GRANT APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has received $135 million in supplemental funding to assist humanities organizations and other cultural institutions affected by the coronavirus pandemic as part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) approved by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Joseph R. Biden.
With funding from NEH, the New Mexico Humanities Council will provide recovery funding to museums, archives, historic sites, and other humanities focused nonprofits impacted by the pandemic with awards of up to $25,000.00. NMHC has approximately $500,000.00 to provide recovery funding to humanities organizations. The primary purpose of ARP is to provide assistance to entities that have suffered major setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NMHC ARP grant funds are intended to help prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the coronavirus in order to sustain and grow the public humanities in the state.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
To apply for an American Rescue Plan grant, non-profit cultural organizations must meet the following criteria:
• Be a recognized 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service prior to the application deadline
• Have a primary mission that is humanities focused
• Have a unique and active entity identifier (currently a D-U-N-S number)

In keeping with the New Mexico Humanities Council's mission and in an effort to help humanities organizations across the state recover from the pandemic, these recovery grants are intended to provide support to organizations that have experienced major challenges in serving their communities as a direct result of COVID. Recovery funds may include but are not limited to: developing new public humanities programs to re-engage with audiences; transitioning to public gatherings and virtual programs, capacity-building training and strategic planning related to preparing, responding to, and recovering from the coronavirus, general operating support to meet the immediate needs and respond to the current challenges presented by the pandemic.
These grants are open to nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, state and local governmental agencies, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments.
