The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission will hold its weekly Open Meeting tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. MDT, during which the Commission will discuss a number of matters of interest. It will be broadcast live on YouTube tomorrow and the link will be available on our website at http://www.nmprc.state.nm.us/#gsc.tab=0 by 9:30 a.m. MDT.

One item of interest is the Community Solar Act rulemaking. NM utilities are being flooded with requests for interconnection from prospective community solar project developers...but the PRC will not have rules in place for the program until April 1, 2022, per HB 84.

It is estimated that more than four times the total expected Community Solar capacity for 2022-2024 is being requested already....well over prospective 150 projects.

The Commission will discuss what guidance utilities should provide to prospective developers in the interim, and other potential actions.

We expect a news release will follow tomorrow’s meeting, detailing any orders and the upcoming workshop scheduled for June 24.

A separate Interconnection rulemaking is currently in a stakeholder process to revise the Interconnection Rule and manual. Resolution of revised interconnection policies is expected in 4th Quarter 2021, but work on some technical aspects will continue into 2022.
