Albuquerque, NM – August 2, 2021 - The Albuquerque Film + Music Experience (AFMX) Virtual Edition 2021 takes place September 20-26, 2021. We are proud to announce its festival program will be presented virtually for the second year in a row. Originally planned as a hybrid festival, AFMX carefully considered the increase in COVID infections as of August 1 to finally determine to forego the in-person portion of the festival.

“The health, safety and well-being of the staff, attendees, and the entire community is of the utmost importance, and moving the program online was the right call,” said Ivan Wiener, Executive Director.

AFMX’s ninth year will include virtual film screenings, Center Stage Conversations with talent, music events, and question and answer sessions with filmmakers from around the world. The film lineup includes 66 projects that will all be accessible starting at 7pm on Monday, September 20 through October 11, 2021 on Eventive, the festival’s virtual event platform (https://afmx2021.eventive.org/welcome).

Center Stage Conversations will showcase special guests such as Grammy-winning musician Sarah McLachlan, the first Native/Indigenous Academy-Award winner, Buffy Sainte-Marie, activist LaDonna Harris, actress Frances Lee McCain, Yamaha Entertainment Group founder Chris Gero, television composer Snuffy Walden, and other surprise guests to be announced.

This year’s honorees include Buffy Sainte-Marie who will receive the Robert & Sibylle Redford Award for Creative Achievement, Sarah McLachlan receiving the AFMX Music Award, and some of the top films on the global film festival circuit will be showcased at AFMX. The Sound of Us, The Album, Vinyl Nation, I’m an Electric Lampshade, Directed By, Fanny: The Right to Rock, Donna Harris: Indian 101, Shellfish, Warrior Spirit, and Zero Gravity are some of the feature presentations along with award-winning shorts, documentaries, New Mexico films, animation and music videos.
