In the area of resources for customers in the face of increasing gas prices

(SANTA FE, NM—OCTOBER 21)—This week at the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission’s Open Meeting, Commissioner Theresa Becenti-Aguilar requested that New Mexico Gas Company provide more public outreach regarding resources available to consumers in the face of the increasing cost of natural gas. Tom Domme, Vice President External Affairs and General Counsel, with others from New Mexico Gas Company, provided a presentation at the Commission’s weekly Open Meeting regarding the rising cost of natural gas. Commissioner Becenti-Aguilar requested that New Mexico Gas Company invest more time and effort communicating about income-based assistance programs and possible pre-payment plans to New Mexico Gas Company customers in key service areas.

This issue is of particular concern to Commissioner Becenti-Aguilar, who said she does not always see all the notices included with her gas bill.

She requested that New Mexico Gas Company establish an outreach program to hand out pamphlets to residents of Albuquerque.  She made a special call for a pre-payment plan and believes it would be essential for New Mexico Gas Company customers. Commissioner Becenti-Aguilar recognizes the natural gas prices are increasing nationally and heating demands this winter will result in higher customer bills.

Mr. Domme’s presentation before the Commission came at the right time, according to Commissioner Becenti-Aguilar. “It is absolutely vital to work in partnership such as this press release to reach every New Mexico Gas Company customer about a pressing economy during the pandemic,” she said.
