New Mexico State University’s rodeo team will host its fall rodeo Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Landmark Mercantile, 12000 Stern Drive, in Mesquite, New Mexico.

The rodeo is open to the public, and events will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the team. NMSU students are free with a current student ID.

“Come support the Aggies and let them show you how NMSU rodeo is on the map and in contention for regional and national titles,” NMSU head rodeo coach Brice Baggarley said. “We want to pack the stands and have a fun night. Performances should last no longer than two hours.”

The team’s roster of 21 women and 19 men will compete against Central Arizona College, University of Arizona, Cochise College, Navajo Technical University, Mesalands Community College, Diné College and others in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Grand Canyon Region.

The men’s division currently ranks No. 1 among the men’s teams in the Grand Canyon Region, while the women’s division ranks second among the women’s teams.

Competitions will include bareback riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

The upcoming rodeo is the third and final rodeo for the team during the fall semester.

The men’s and women’s divisions both placed second in the first two rodeos of the semester in Douglas, Arizona, and Tucumcari, New Mexico.

“This is one of the hardest working, respectful and genuinely thankful teams I have ever seen. They have voiced how much they missed their teammates during the COVID-19 pandemic and are so thankful to be back in the arena,” Baggarley said. “We are equally as thankful for the outpouring of support from the community trying to help in any way they can to support our program.”

The team will continue its regular season next semester and compete in seven rodeos, starting in March.
