Also Seeking Donors to Provide More Milk During the Formula Crisis

Albuquerque, NM – May 25, 2022 – The Human Milk Repository of New Mexico (HMRNM)—the state’s first and only Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) accredited mother’s milk bank—is hoping to make a positive difference for new moms in the face of the nationwide formula shortage. Thanks to a grant from the Anderson Family Foundation and an outpouring of community support, HMRNM is offering 40 ounces of breast milk to new moms for $100.

“New moms have enough unknowns they are dealing with and feeding their baby shouldn’t be at the top of that list,” said Kael Marshall, HMRNM Executive Director. “Reading the headlines about the formula shortages breaks my heart. I’m grateful that we have the resources to the offer breast milk to new moms at a reasonable rate.”

To allow for ample supplies, HMRNM is also seeking breast milk donors. The organization partners with medical facilities throughout the state. Utilizing evidence-based techniques and operating in accordance with HMBANA guidelines, the Human Milk Repository of New Mexico tests all donors prior to approval.

Once approved, donors can make a donation appointment at facilities in Albuquerque or Las Cruces. Milk is then shipped to or picked up by recipient families after being process at HMRNM’s Albuquerque facility.
