Search spurred by long-time director's pending retirement

SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) announced today that it is accepting applications from candidates for the Energy Conservation and Management Division Director position. Details on how to apply for the position are available on the EMNRD website.

Louise Martinez, the long-time ECMD director announced her retirement from state government, effective June 30, 2023. As a result, the agency has launched a national search to fill this critical position.

The ECMD director oversees the state's energy office, encompassing the division's statewide statutory, regulatory, and policy responsibilities with respect to renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change, alternative fuels, and safe transportation of radioactive waste.

Martinez has been in her current role since October 2012, capping a 30-plus year career in state government. "As I look forward to a new chapter of life, I have to say I am extremely proud of the work the ECMD has done during my time here," Martinez said. "We have made incredible progress in establishing programs that will guide New Mexico's journey to a clean-energy future and addressing climate change."

"Louise Martinez has been a steadfast leader at ECMD," said EMNRD Cabinet Secretary Sarah Cottrell Propst. "She is well respected by both her staff and her colleagues across state government. Her vast knowledge of energy conservation and management issues will be difficult to replace. However, we wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement."

Jeremy Lewis, currently ECMD's deputy director, will serve as acting division director until a permanent director is hired.
