SANTA FE - New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) announces the New Mexico Regional Recreation Centers and Quality of Life Grant. During the 2023 Legislative Session, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed legislation appropriating $40M for projects statewide to plan, design, furnish, equip, and construct regional recreational projects that contribute to the quality of life for regional residents.

“This funding has the potential to make a positive impact on the well-being of residents by providing resources to establish or enhance recreational centers, which often become essential focal points within the community,” said DFA Cabinet Secretary Wayne Propst. “We hope local entities across the state take advantage of unique opportunities to create or improve community spaces for social interactions and community engagement.”

Examples of recreational facilities include a community center, a skatepark, rodeo grounds, picnic shelters, or structures that enhance public-based recreational activities.

DFA’s Local Government Division (LGD) will host a pre-application webinar to provide information for local government entities interested in applying for the grant.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, 10:00 am-11:00 am via Microsoft Teams. Local government entities can register for the webinar here.

Applications for the grant open on August 23, 2023, and the deadline to apply is September 13, 2023, at 5:00 pm.

The fund has a reversion date of June 30, 2024.
