Portales, NM – February 26, 2024 – The ENMU Department of Music presents the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” Friday, March 1-Saturday, March 2, with both showings at 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall of the Music Building. 

"Our telling of the classic Princess and the Pea fairytale is filled with joyous make-believe, hilarity, and a touch of heartfelt authenticity,” said Marie Smithwick, Assistant Professor of Voice and Stage Director of the Performance. “The students and faculty of the ENMU Department of Music have worked tirelessly to bring you this show. Please come and see Once Upon a Mattress.”

Once Upon a Mattress is the age-old story of “The Princess and the Pea,” with energetic and jazz-influenced music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and a book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. The family-friendly comedy will feature an onstage instrumental ensemble, a cast of more than 20, filled with humor, romance, and dancing!

Once Upon a Mattress has been featured on TV and Broadway, having famous actresses and actors such as Carol Burnett, Jack Gilford, Buster Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Jane Krakowski perform in Broadway or televised performances of this musical. 

General admission tickets are $7 and can now be purchased at www.enmu.edu/operalive . Tickets can also be purchased at the door starting at 6:00 p.m., availability permitting. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. each night.
