Ann Shortridge, 89, of Silver City, NM passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at her residence. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home. Due to an injury that hospitalized her husband, the graveside service has been postponed.

Ann was born Ann Colby and raised in New Hampshire. Her father, Wayne Colby, was a renowned trainer of Field Dogs. Ann spent much of her adult life in Sarasota, Florida where she married the artist E.W. (Gene) Shortridge and they raised her daughter Lynn Landers Medlin. Lynn currently owns and operates a dog training business in Venice, California.
In Sarasota, Ann worked for the Federal Employment Agency. Her favorite assignments were working with the circus folk who wintered in Sarasota, and helping to cast the epic film "THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH," which was shot in Sarasota.  In 2005, Ann and Gene tired of the hurricanes in Florida and moved to Silver City, New Mexico. They loved the friendliness of the people, the history of the area, walks in her beloved hills filled with birds and other wild life, and the Annual Blues Festival.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to K9 Connection at 1453 16TH St., Santa Monica, California 90404 or at k9connection.org.
