He was born on March 10, 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland to Hugh Walker and Janet M. Walker. When John was 12 his family moved to Toronto, Canada. When his dad was watching the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl on Tv his dad decided they were moving to Pasadena, California, which they did when he was 16. Shortly after moving there a man invited John to a church where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

After high school he joined the Airforce for 4 years and was an airplane mechanic. While in the service he became a naturalized citizen and so he had dual citizenship.

After getting out of the service he headed back to California on a bus at a stop on Monte Vista, Colorado a young woman got on the bus and sat in the only seat available which was next to John. Before she got off at El Centro, California, where she would be teaching school, he asked if he could come see her on weekends. On one of those weekends they decided to go to Las Vegas, Nevada and get married.

John and his brother-in-law decided to take over a sign business owned by an uncle, Joe Goforth and became co-owners of J&J Signs of Silver City. After a while John and family moved back to California for a few years and then later moved back to Silver City where he owned Walker Signs until he retired.

He will be remembered by friends and family for always having a joke to tell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Janet Mahl Walker, their daughter Laura Rubb (Tom) of Copan, Oklahoma and son James of Silver City. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
