healy 02Stephen “Steve” M. Healy, 82, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, September 17, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born June 1, 1938 in Montgomery, Indiana to Thomas Healy and Wilma Jean Ledgerwood Healy. Steve’s family moved to Morenci, AZ in 1948 where he made lifelong friends and graduated in 1956. He went to college at Northern Arizona University and met his wife of over 56 years.  He graduated with a degree in Forestry and worked with the US Forest Service for 30 years turning his passion into a career in forest management and working as a resource on wildland fires all over the country. One of his more notable assignments was working on the crew who helped locate parts and clean up after the Shuttle Challenger crashed over Texas.

He moved to Silver City in 1974 where he set down roots and raised his family.  Steve was also a avid studier of WWII, and met with many veterans over the years and captured their stories in writing that may otherwise have been lost. He loved his family and had a special relationship with his grandchildren and loved to talk football, especially if it involved the New England Patriots or Notre Dame.  He was a great man, husband, father, and friend and will be missed beyond words.

He is survived by his loving wife, Molly Healy of the family home; one son, Thomas Healy and wife Lanka of Czech Republic; three daughters, Kasey McEuen and husband Jim of Rio Rancho, NM; Krissi Healy of Penngrove, CA; Rebecca Healy of Broken Arrow, OK; nine grandchildren, Deryl, Courtney, Bailey, Michael, Wyatt, Taylor, Jorden, Marki, and Michael; two great grandchildren, Rhett and Abigail; one sister, Mary Steele of Concord, CA; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Healy.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 23 at 10am at St. Francis Newman Center with Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem officiating. Concluding service and interment will be at Memory Lane cemetery. Pallbearers are Deryl Coulson, Michael Koropp, Wyatt McEuen, Taylor Koropp, Jorden Isenberg, and Richard Hill.
