Sandra Kaye Dawson, 78 of Hurley, New Mexico passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at her residence. A Viewing will be held Monday, December 7, 2020 at Bright Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 10:00am and ending at 4:00pm. Masks are required and only 5 persons are allowed in the Chapel at a time, due to government orders. A Graveside Service will be conducted at the Bayard Cemetery on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 1:00pm; officiating is Dr. Porter from LDS Church in Silver City, NM. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Gara Nan (Pete) Cowen, two brothers Kenneth Cowen and Charlie Cowen both of Rankin, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years Lonnie Dawson, three sons Jimmy Sanders of Artesia, NM, Floyd Sanders of Moriarty, NM, Louis Sanders of Datil, NM, several grand children and great grandchildren, three brothers Sam Cowen of Rankin, TX, Johnny Cowen of Jadin, Texas, Sherrod Cowen of Wills Point, Texas. Sandra attended high school in Rankin, Texas. In April 1989 she married Lonnie Dawson, they lived in Caballo, NM for 14 years, attended nursing school at the Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences, became and LPN then an RN. She was employed in Deming, NM up until she was diagnosed with cancer. She loved to go fishing, loved reading, an avid Dallas fan win or lose.
