petetorresCaptain Pete Q Torres Jr. (USAR Retired), 80, of Silver City, New Mexico, passed away, Wednesday, June 2, 2021, while outdoors doing what he enjoyed most surrounded by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, June 16 at Terrazas Funeral Chapel, Memorial Mass will be at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bayard, New Mexico. Pete was born October,17, 1940 in Mogollon, New Mexico to Petronillo and Margarita Torres. He graduated from Cobre High School in 1959 and from Western New Mexico University during the early 1970’s with a bachelor’s degree in education. Pete was also a retired member of the 281st Army Reserve unit here in Silver City and achieved the rank of Captain. He was employed as a welder for ten years at what was once Kennecott Corporation, Hurley, New Mexico.

In 1973, he met his sweetheart, the love of his life for 48 years, Rosemary, and together they opened their own manufactured housing business from which he later retired. He enjoyed working night and day in his office, and welding as a hobby. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed sports, and watching football. He also enjoyed reading old novels, and spending time with his children and grandchildren whenever he could. Pete is survived by his four sons, and sweetheart, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his two sisters, two brothers along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Petronillo and Margarita Torres, and his son Peter Torres Jr., baby brothers Sylvestre and Daniel Torres, brothers Salvador Torres, Ascencion “Chon” Torres and sister Isabel “Chavela” Avila.
