greenecowanGreene Lloyd Cowan entered eternal rest on 12/27/2021, he was born on July 25, 1961, at Sandia Base (now Kirtland Air Force Base), Albuquerque, NM. His family moved to Naperville, IL, in 1962 where he was joined by sister Rachel. After a 1967 move to Silver City, NM, his brother Aaron completed the family.

Greene first discovered his love of outdoors while participating in the Boy Scouts historic hike on the Butterfield Stage Trail from Ft Cummings to Ft Bayard. He was an active participant in the United Methodist Church youth groups and the Chancel Choir, and played trombone in the Silver High School band. He graduated from Silver High in 1979 and moved to Alaska.

In Alaska, Greene first worked in a cannery, then became a fisherman for cod, halibut, crab, herring, and salmon; he also served as engineer of the 96-foot fishing vessel Lin-J.

Greene moved back to the Silver City area in 1994, and after earning his general contractor license, he built houses, remodeled homes, and constructed amazing fireplaces and other stonework.

He was an avid life-long hunter, and worked as a licensed guide for US Outfitters in NM and AZ. Greene was always available for hiking, camping, and road trips around Southwest NM. He enjoyed nothing more than telling tales of his adventures and being with family and friends. In spite of this, life wasn’t easy for Greene, and he deeply regretted that he couldn’t sustain his marriage.

Poor health kept him close to home in his last years, but he always found joy in watching wildlife and the antics of his beloved cats, as well as keeping in touch with friends near and far. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Obed and Marie Albrecht and Bill and Cecilia Cowan, his brother Aaron, and his father Tip.

His mother Mary, sister Rachel, nephews Tom, Cody, and Logan, niece Gianna, Aunt Helen, Uncle Bill, sister-in-law Kari, and many cousins, greatly miss his presence.

His memorial service will be on February 5 at 11 a.m., at the Silver City United Methodist Church. Instead of flowers, his family ask that you make donations to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek Road, Missoula, MT 59808; or the High Desert Humane Society, PO Box 1973, Silver City, NM 88062.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.  Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory "Trusted care for the ones you love" ~ 575-537-0777.
