It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lewis Freeman Good Jr. age 90, of Silver City, New Mexico. Formerly residing in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia and Boston, Massachusetts. Freeman is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Julie, and Matthew; a grandson, Iain Good and his sister, Thelma Oakes. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Freeman Good Sr., and Gwendolyn Welfoot; a son, Jonathan Good and brother, Bob Good.

Freeman was a life-loving, generous person with immense curiosity about what made the world work. He had equal curiosity and compassion regarding people, striking up conversations with any stranger including friendships with the regular homeless people on his early Fort Lauderdale walks. He loved traveling the world with friends and family and looked for ancestors everywhere. He was a die-hard Florida Gator fan his entire life - his happy place was an armchair, a Gators game, and a bowl of peanut M&Ms.

Freeman was born September 1, 1932.  He graduated from Natick High School in Massachusetts. Attended University of Florida in Gainesville and graduated in 1955 with the degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was there that he met his future wife Barbara Walker and they married in 1955. They went on to have three children Julie, Matthew, and Jonathan. The highlight of his early career as a mechanical engineer was working on the Patriot and Hawk Missile systems for Raytheon Industries. But he fell in love with construction after building the family a home in the woods of Bedford, Massachusetts. After becoming a general contractor in Atlanta, Georgia he built luxury homes and then moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to continue his contracting career culminating in a retirement home run by the family called Morningside. Freeman and his wife Barbara thoroughly enjoyed their lifestyle in Fort Lauderdale so close to the ocean. His longevity may be accredited to many leisurely weekends at the beach people watching and absorbing sun and surf. May heaven be sea and shore. We will miss you.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming where he will be laid to rest.
