alexanderJohnathan Paul Alexander, 33, a resident of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal rest Friday, March 10, 2023 in Silver City, NM. He was born March 3, 1990 in Silver City to John Tol Alexander and Raquel Polanco Ortega.

As we mourn the loss of our loved ones, we thank God for the time we had with them here on earth. God works in mysterious ways, he has always had a plan for us, Johnathan Alexander was no exception to his plan. Johnathan Paul Alexander was one who endured many sufferings in life. He carried tremendous pain, a broken heart from abuse, neglect, and the effects of abandonment. Through his pain, he was enabled to still have a creative spirit and helping hands to his family and friends. He was intelligent and wise beyond his years. For example, he knew the Bible from front to back, and could easily correlate everyday life to the teachings of the Bible.

Johnathan’s faith in God never wavered, his faith allowed him to be a remarkable artist throughout his life. His creativity was illustrated in ink, clay, wood, and metal works of art. He was a hard worker, who had characteristics comparable to those of his grandfather, Calletano Ortega. In his profession as a long-haul truck driver, he was able to travel the nation many times over. He saw places many of us could only dream of seeing. In his travels he found true joy and serenity, which granted him opportunity to express his freedom and love for those around him. He could never be replaced; he was truly one of a kind. He will remain in our hearts forever; may he rest now and be granted peace within the hands of our Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his mother, Raquel Ortega of Las Cruces; two brothers, Brandon Andrew and wife Alyssa of Murrieta, CA; Ryan Luke of Fort Gordon, GA; one sister, Justine Rose of Clovis, NM; one niece, Mila Jade; one nephew, Luke Evan; paternal grandfather, Kenneth Alexander of South Carolina; maternal grandmother, Martha Ortega of Gila, NM; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandmother, Emily Kay Alexander; maternal grandfather, Calletano Ortega.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 24 at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Oliver Obele officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at Gila Catholic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his grandfather, Calletano Ortega.

Pallbearers:  Tol Alexander, Brandon Alexander, Ryan Aguirre, Landon Reed, Mariano Estrada and Vicente Rodriguez; Honorary pallbearers are Logan Reed, Isaiah Ortega, and Richard Reed.
