Vicky L Sherwood, age 78, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023. Vicky was born in Mondovi, Wisconsin to Wilburt and Virginia Hein.

Vicky graduated from Silver High in Silver City, NM and earned a Master's degree in elementary education with an endorsement as a reading specialist from Western New Mexico University. She served as an elementary teacher for the Silver Consolidated School District for twenty-eight years until retirement. After retiring from teaching she worked as a realtor at Neal Real Estate in Silver City. Years later she moved to Albuquerque to be closer to her grandchildren.

Vicky was an avid reader having read hundreds of books throughout her lifetime. She passed along her love of reading to her many students and was an advocate for children's literacy. Right up until her final days, she was reading as frequently as her health would allow.

Her passion for traveling led her to visit many European countries and almost all of the states in the U.S. She spent time visiting Canada and Mexico as well. In Europe she particularly enjoyed Germany and Ireland. Her favorite places in the U.S. were the mountains of Colorado and the Oregon Coast.

Vicky is survived by her sons Christopher Sherwood and his wife Kimberly of La Junta CO, and Brian Sherwood and his wife Evan of Cedar Park, TX. She had six grandchildren- Cheney and his wife Veronica of Colorado Springs, Travis and his wife Jenna of La Junta CO, Curtis of La Junta CO, and Beck, Cannon and Tate of Cedar Park Texas. Her great-grand children are Nicholas, Alice, and Rosy.

Information about services for Vicky will be released once a date has been confirmed. In lieu of gifts or flowers Vicky would have asked that donations be made in her name to the Harrison Schmitt Elementary library in Silver City, N.M.
