George Howard Burfiend, 92, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Friday, November 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 7, 1931 in Traverse City, MI to Howard and Orpha F. Burfiend.

Our dad grew up on a farm in Michigan when you still worked the fields with horses.  All his life he either was working or in bed resting for the next day of work.  Even on vacation he worked.  The only time he hated working was if there was snow on the ground. At age 37 he became a type 1 diabetic when there was very little that could be done for you and when he passed away at 92 he had an insulin pump and sensor.  He fought and battled the disease every single second of his life.  He was an inspiration to all who knew him.  The last 30 years of his life he was able to enjoy a life filled with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great granddaughter.  Family was his entire world.  Not a second went by that he wasn’t wanting to know what everyone was up to. 

He is survived by his loving wife Sue Burfiend of the family home; one son, John Burfiend and wife Dana of Silver City; one daughter, Polly Pierson and husband John of Quemado, NM; two grandchildren, Colt Pierson (fiancé Kami) and Oran Pierson (fiancé Jintry); great grandson, Raegan Pierson; one brother, Dan Burfiend and wife Barbara of South Carolina.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Pete Burfiend; two sisters, Agnes Dietrich and Beck.

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.  No services will be held per family.
