QuarrellMMarlene was born on April 1, 1938 to Nellie (Tylka) Anderson Campbell and John Edward Anderson in Belleville, IL. Later, following John Edward’s death in 1945, she was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Roy Campbell. After graduating from high school at the Academy of Notre Dame in 1957, she met John (Jack) Arthur Malone who was stationed at nearby Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.  

Marlene married John Malone in 1958 and the couple was soon stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. John and Marlene settled in Alamogordo, NM near Holloman AFB after John’s retirement from the Air Force in 1972. Marlene, along with her husband John and son Joe, was a longtime owner of The Music Shop in Alamogordo NM. While there, she was heavily involved and a proud supporter of "The Alamogordo Fighting Tigers" marching band as well as a member of the band booster club. She also greatly supported the music program in the Alamogordo school system (elementary through high school). In later years, she worked at Daylight Donuts in Alamogordo and then, after John’s death in 1989, moved to Las Cruces and worked at the bakery in Jewel-Osco/Albertsons.  She later married Michael Quarrell in 1990. She and Michael moved to Deming, NM in 1998.

Marlene is survived by her husband Michael Quarrell of Deming NM, children Joseph Roy Malone of Alamogordo NM and April (Malone) South of Hillsboro OR, her grandson Scotty South II of Aloha OR, daughter-in-law Ronna Vanderslice, granddaughter Jonna Vanderslice of Weatherford OK (daughter of John C. Malone and Ronna Vanderslice), stepchildren Eddie Romero, Frank (Betty) Quarrell and family,  Danny (Bernadette) Quarrell and family, Marissa Scott and family all of Silver City NM, and brother Mike (Barbara Hood) Campbell and family of Fairview Heights Illinois.   

Marlene is preceded in death by her mother, father and stepfather, husband John (Jack) A. Malone, infant son Richard Malone, sons John C. Malone and James Malone, brother Robert Anderson and his wife Charlotte and stepson Michael Quarrell.

At Marlene’s request, there will be no services held. She will be cremated and her ashes interred in the family plot in a private ceremony at a later date. Marlene was a longtime animal lover and supported the local pet shelter in Deming. If you wish, you may make a donation to Deming Animal Guardians in Deming, NM in her honor as an alternative to flowers.
