WoffordSSally Lou Cole Wofford was born in Lovell, Oklahoma on November 9, 1928, to Robert Hugh Cole and Dee Cole.  She died peacefully on January 5, 2024, in Silver City at the age of 95.

She graduated from Hurley High School in 1946 and soon after graduation married Hurshel Alvin Wofford.  Hurshel was her soul mate and the two quickly became immersed in creating a life around gardening, growing numerous fruit trees, fishing, and raising children.  A poem to Sally from Hurshel:

“To My Beloved Wife”

I love you not only for what you are, but for

what I am with you.

I love you not for what you have made of yourself,

but for what you are making of me.

Sally and Hurshel had four children: Nancy, Terry, Hurshel Jr. and Doreen.  Hurshel Sr., and children Doreen and Hurshel Jr. preceded Sally in death.  Afterwards Sally immersed herself in her church, oil painting and Widow Persons’ Organization.

Always an artist, Sally created the emblem for the Chino Copper (KCC) anniversary in 1959 and spent 35 years in the Grant County Art Guild.  She enjoyed her time gallery sitting at Pinos Altos Hearst Church and the many lunches and coffees with her club.

In addition to her daughters, Nancy Helton (Richard) and Terry Hurt (Jerry), Sally is survived by eight grandchildren, Richard Helton (Heather), Staci Perry (Joe), Georgia Gutierrez (Chuck), Jacob Hurt (Lydia), Jill Hurt, Daniel Wofford (Rachel), Cori Norris (Chuck) and Jason Wofford.  She is also survived by Hurshel Jr.’s wife, Viola; thirteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor Randy Teague officiating.  Concluding service and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery where her cremains will be laid to rest with her husband, Hurshel.
