The power of 15 minutes for family fun, reading with your child, physical activity or quiet time. The power of meals for under $15. Just to name a few activities. Discover what you can do in just "15"on Saturday, September 17th from 10am to 2pm at Penny Park in Silver City. Sponsored by the Grant County Community Health Council, Hidalgo Medical Services, Healthy Kids Healthy Communities and the Imagination Library.

This year children can enjoy face-painting with the Silver High Key Club, create their own magnets with the Silver City Food Co-Op, interact with friendly pups from the High Desert Humane Society, pick out a book with Literacy Link Leamos, and partake of many more activities sponsored by the 30 +participating agencies.

Grant County Health Council and Fiesta Coordinator, Cari Lemon says, "The mission of the Children's Fiesta is for community members to learn about the many programs and services that are available to children and families. This being my first year overseeing the event, I am amazed about how many programs there are! And the enthusiasm of the participants wanting to share their information is just awesome. This event is 15 years old because of the commitment of these agencies. Please come and see what is happening in our community!"

The Red Hot Children's Fiesta is the largest children's resource fair in southwestern New Mexico. The Fiesta was begun 14 years ago by LifeQuest Early Intervention as a way to locate children in need of developmental services. The Fiesta soon morphed into a community child development fair and grew too large for one agency to effectively coordinate.

"The theme is Power of 15! While the overall purpose of the Fiesta is supporting families to live in a healthy way, we want the activities and information to include all components of health; i.e. physical, emotional, social, cognitive, creative expression, explains Lemon"

Every child who participates on Saturday will be entered in the raffle. There will be 4 drawings; Main Street Gift certificates in the amount of $10, $15, and a $25 sponsored by Silco Theater. As well as 4 movie tickets to the Silco Theater.

Please no dogs in the park during the Fiesta as small children will be in attendance. Also, be aware that the portion of Grant St. in front of Penny Park will be closed off for the safety of attendees.
