...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN THE BOOTHEEL OF NEW MEXICO
THIS AFTERNOON...


.A NEARLY STATIONARY UPPER LEVEL LOW OVER THE GREAT BASIN WILL
BRING INCREASING SOUTHWEST WINDS TO THE DESERT SOUTHWEST THIS
AFTERNOON. WEATHER CONDITIONS YESTERDAY CAME VERY CLOSE TO RED
FLAG CRITERIA IN THE BOOTHEEL REGION...AND WINDS THIS AFTERNOON
WILL BE A LITTLE STRONGER...WHILE MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY
VALUES ONCE AGAIN DROP INTO THE LOWER TEENS. WINDS WILL BE
STRONGEST IN NORTH-SOUTH ORIENTED VALLEYS IN THE BOOTHEEL
REGION...INCLUDING THE SAN SIMON...ANIMAS...PLAYAS...AND HACHITA
VALLEYS...WHERE GUSTS MAY REACH 35 TO 40 MPH AT THE 20-FOOT
LEVEL. WINDS WILL BE STRONGER AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY...BUT INCREASING
MOISTURE SHOULD PREVENT A SECOND DAY OF RED FLAG CONDITIONS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN EL PASO TX/SANTA TERESA HAS
ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS
AFTERNOON TO 7 PM MDT THIS EVENING.

* AREA AFFECTED: SOUTHWEST PORTIONS OF FIRE WEATHER ZONE 111...
  INCLUDING MOST OF HILDAGO COUNTY...FAR SOUTHERN GRANT COUNTY...
  AND EXTREME SW LUNA COUNTY.

* TIMING: 1 PM TO 7 PM MDT. STRONGEST WINDS BETWEEN 3 PM AND 6 PM.

* WIND: 20 TO 25 MPH AT THE 20-FOOT LEVEL WITH GUSTS 35 TO 40 MPH.

* HUMIDITY: MINIMUM RH 10 TO 14 PERCENT.

* HAINES INDEX: MAX 5 TO 6.

* IMPACTS...ANY FIRES THAT DEVELOP WILL LIKELY SPREAD RAPIDLY.
  OUTDOOR BURNING IS NOT RECOMMENDED...ESPECIALLY IN AREAS OF TALL
  CURED GRASS.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL
CREATE EXTREME FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.
