Reserve Ranger District ready for summer visitors

Water System Up and Running at Snow Lake's Dipping Vat Campground

SILVER CITY, NM, May 16, 2024 – Memorial Day is just around the corner, and the Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District is ready for visitors. Dipping Vat Campground, located adjacent to Snow Lake is up and running and its water system is operational.

"As summer heats up, come on up to Dipping Vat, where the days are warm and the nights are cool," said Acting Reserve District Ranger Bret Ruff. "where you can hike in the Gila Wilderness, fish in the headwaters of the Gila River, and observe the night sky."

As a reminder, due to increased costs for operation and maintenance of recreation facilities, Dipping Vat is one of a handful of sites on the Gila where use fees will increase this year. Starting May 24, the cost per night to camp at Dipping Vat Campground will be $10 per night. The following table lists all sites with fee increases this year, the old and new fees, and the dates when new fees go into effect:
