NMSU's first new faculty cluster to focus on STEM+ education research

New Mexico State University recently launched its STEM+ Education Research Institute to tackle issues facing STEM+ education with a team of researchers focused on K-12 and higher education.

The plus in the name indicates the integration of the humanities, arts and community needs along with global challenges in translating STEM research into practice.

 NMSU’s first faculty cluster includes five newly hired professors who will work together, designing their own proposals and/or collaborating on research designed to improve the effectiveness of STEM+ education.

RPNM Statement on Judge's Ruling in Redistricting Case

Albuquerque, October 6—Today, Judge Fred T. Van Soelen issued his verdict on RPNM's redistricting case.

He wrote, "the Defendants' intentions were to entrench their party in CD 2, and they succeeded in substantially diluting their opponents' votes…,"

Then based solely on the past election with incumbent Yvette Herrell, who has very high name recognition and identification, Judge Van Soelen shockingly ruled that the vote dilution did not rise to the level of an egregious gerrymander.

White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) posted an alert for Saturday, October 14, 2023, due to the solar eclipse that is taking place.  White Sands Missile Range is supporting three (3) research rockets to capture scientific data.  US 70 is planned to be closed from 9:35 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. This block will be located at BLUE Block (2 miles east of the WSMR access road - Mile Marker 172) and Yellow Block (located near White Sands National Park, mile marker 200).

Dual-degree program at NMSU trains students in public health and social work

Alexa Copeland and Lindsay Keeling trekked different parts of the world as Peace Corps volunteers, but their paths eventually crossed at New Mexico State University. Their shared interest in public health and social work led them to a program in the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation that trains students in both fields.


 
NMSU offers a dual-degree program through the School of Social Work and Department of Public Health Sciences that allows students to earn master’s degrees in social work and public health under a single degree plan. It is one of only 42 such programs in the nation and one of only two based along the United States-Mexico border.

Scale Up NM at NMSU announces Venture Funding startup cohort

The Scale Up New Mexico program, funded in part by the United States Economic Development Administration and housed at New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center, has selected its newest cohort of startups for the Venture Funding Sprint accelerator program.


 
Venture Funding is designed to empower New Mexico’s tech startup founders with the knowledge and skills required to successfully raise capital.

Farm & Ranch Museum welcomes Deputy Director

LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces recently hired Naomi Terry as its new Deputy Director. She will oversee the museum’s budget as well as assist with the overall operations of the facility.

“Naomi is a great addition to the team here at the Farm & Ranch Museum,” said Museum Executive Director Heather Reed. “Her experience in finance and her skills as a highly organized staff manager who understands and relates well to all people make her a perfect fit for this key position.”

Prescribed burning is a fire management tool used to reduce fuel loads and decrease fire behavior in the case of a wildfire – among other benefits. Prescribed fire and associated smoke may lower the chances of a much longer smoke event from wildfire.
