Girl Scouts from the Desert Southwest in Silver City made homemade treats to take to the Humane Society. In the first picture are new members this summer Kiani Mountain and Makayla Sapien rolling the dough out and then cutting them with animal shaped cookie cutters.
The second picture is the group of girls that helped make the treats, and then had a tour of the Humane society. From left, front row, are Hayley Mendoza, Rylee Reyes, Ella Bertaloni; middle row Katelynn Clark, Meliani Diaz, Leila Gonzales, Makayla Sapien, Kiani Mountain; and back row, Maricella Gallegos, Alexis McKinney, Rachel Windsor, Ameila Ellis. They visited with Vicky Kelman, Silver City's Animal Control Officer, about the truck used to bring animals to the Humane Society, and then went inside for a tour with Gigi Shoaf, office manager for the High Desert Humane Society.
The last picture is Ella Bertaloni feeding one of the residents a homemade treat.
The girls made chicken flavor, peanut butter flavor, and mint so the pets can have fresh breath and hopefully get adopted.
We believe that one girl can make a difference, and that girls together can change the world. To find out more about Girl Scouts call Membership Manager Annette Toney at 538-2481 at the silver City Girl Scout office. Or visit our website gsdsw.org
