4-H "Hands for Larger Service"

4-H isn't just about shooting sports or showing livestock. One of the main focuses of 4-H is community service. Several clubs in Grant County have been very busy doing community service in the community. The Spurs 4-H Club in Cliff, did their annual highway trash clean-up. They have adopted a mile of highway between Cliff and Gila and each year they pick up all of the trash along the roadside. The Spurs club had a great turnout for the event. Among the members in attendance were: Samantha Jones, Lilynn and Rainie Zacharias, Caitlin Brabson, Emma Smith, Zola Brown, Asia and Neysa Gutierrez, Issaiah and Noah Robles, Cale and Collin Golden, Andrew & Zachary Eggleston, Ronan Williamson, Cody Lewis, Tanna Goar, Ally Massengill, Josh Agnew, Jeremy Younger, Breck and Brye Baptiste, Tucker Gatlin, Luke and Emmy Allsup and Paislee Donaldson.

Additionally, the Spurs 4-H Club also held a rabies clinic for the community with the help from Dr. Allred of Arenas Valley Animal Clinic. The clinic was held at the Cliff-Gila Fire Station. Members of the community were able to bring their cats and dogs and have them vaccinated without having to take them into town. Tanna Goar, Austin Harsh, Sienna Bruton, Courtney Hardin, Colton Smith and Josh Agnew were there to help Dr. Allred with anything that he needed to get the job done including doing paperwork and handing out tags.

The Silver Shooters and White Signal 4-H Clubs in Silver City also participated in doing some community service. Each of the clubs helped the Literacy Links-Leamos move books from storage to the library as well as label books to make them easier to organize. The members from the two clubs helped on two different days to accomplish the goals. Representing the Silver Shooters Club were: Seth Neal, Parker, Josh and Luke McMillan. Members from the White Signal Club were: Sam, Lizzy, Olivia, and Thomas McDonald, Sarah Gardner, Hannah Miller, Aiden and Teagan McDaniel and Madi Jackson. The Literacy Links-Leamos Program is designed to raise literacy levels in Grant County. Grant County 4-H is proud to help the community and support this great cause.

Wranglers 4-H Club in Silver City has also been up to some great community service. The club teamed up with the Girl Scouts of America's Care to Share Project. The Care to Share Project sends Girl Scout Cookies to the U.S. military troops that are stationed overseas. The club purchased six cases of cookies from the Girl Scouts that were then sent overseas to our very deserving military.
We are very pleased with any opportunity to give back to our wonderful Grant County community.
