DEMING – The Honorable Jarod K. Hofacket was sworn in as Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District Court today at the Luna County District Courthouse after being elected by his peers.

Chief Judge Hofacket succeeds the Honorable Jennifer E. DeLaney.   

“It’s a privilege to serve as Chief Judge,” said Chief Judge Hofacket. “We have a great team here in the Sixth Judicial District Court and we will continue to do the best job we can to serve New Mexicans.”

The Sixth Judicial District consists of three district courts and four magistrate courts serving Grant, Luna and Hidalgo Counties in southwest New Mexico. 

Chief Judge Hofacket’s new responsibilities include: assigning, reassigning or consolidating cases among judges as equitably as possible, serving as the administrative authority for enforcing personnel rules and administering the court’s internal operations based on established policy. 

The Honorable Jarod K. Hofacket has been a District Court Judge since 2016. He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2003 and practiced Corporate Securities and M & A law in Dallas, Texas several years before moving back home to Deming, New Mexico. He has a general docket and carries a caseload in all three counties in the Sixth Judicial District. Chief Judge Hofacket is the chair of the Judiciary’s Performance Measures Committee. He also leads the Pretrial Services Program for the Sixth Judicial Court and is the presiding judge for the Hidalgo County Adult Drug Court. Chief Judge Hofacket is married and has three teenage sons. He is an active Rotary Club member and board member for the Luna County Cancer Support.

Duties and responsibilities for all Chief Judges in New Mexico Courts are governed by New Mexico Supreme General Rules 23-109.
