Speaker can't handle Herrell victory so now he wants to change the rules

After Republican Congresswoman-elect Yvette Herrell’s blowout victory over Democrat Xochitl Torres Small in New Mexico’s Second Congressional District, Democrat Speaker of the House Brian Egolf has already begun his power grab. He announced that he will try to turn the tides in his favor by heavily gerrymandering the District to help Democrats in subsequent elections.

“So this is the last election for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District with a map that looks like it looks now,” said Egolf at a post-election press conference. “So next time it’ll be a different district and we’ll have to see what that means for Republican chances to hold it.”

Egolf did not like the person the voters of CD-2 chose to send to Congress, and so, in a desperate and sleazy move, he suddenly wants to change the rules of the game to try and get a better outcome. Since his weak candidates like Torres Small, Rocky Lara, Merrie Soules, and every other radical Democrat who don’t share the values of the District, has tried and failed to win the seat in the District, Egolf is now rigging the game for his own selfish and partisan benefit.

Instead of working hard to fix our broken education system, cut our high crime rate, stop graduates from fleeing the state, and help curb our abysmal poverty and drug problems, Egolf would rather just stack the deck in his party’s favor to continue the failed and corrupt policies that have been failing the people of New Mexico more than 90 years with unchecked power.

 On Election Day the people of New Mexico’s Second Congressional District rejected the Democrats’ far-left agenda, and now there’s hell to pay from the battered and bruised Speaker of the House.

Egolf doesn’t step foot in the Second Congressional District unless it’s to fundraise. He doesn’t understand the needs of its constituents or appreciate the importance of the oil and gas industry there. Egolf has absolutely no interest in helping the people of the District if it doesn’t entail clinging onto power from his ivory tower in Santa Fe.

But New Mexicans are resilient and don’t take kindly to being looked down upon by pompous radicals who want to take away their rights and take away their representation. Being 50th on the list for everything good and number one on the list for everything bad is not going to fly—and we told the Democrats exactly that this election by putting Yvette Herrell in Congress.

We will not be bullied by Egolf and his illegitimate attempted power grab. If Egolf thinks he will redraw the district maps and whisk away more power without a fight from the people of New Mexico for a fair process, he has another think coming. We will not sleep until our government represents the people of New Mexico, and we are prepared to meet Brian Egolf on that field to battle for the future of our state.

All Egolf can think about are political tricks to make sure his weak candidates can win a district where Republicans are already outnumbered 2-1. What he said was an insult to our political system and an insult to our great state.
