Silver City High School senior Tanah Lowe was inducted as a 4-H state diplomat during the annual 4-H Senior Leadership Retreat in Albuquerque in January.

Lowe joined Carli Allbright, of Las Cruces; Madison Sutliff, of Gallup; and Lilly McCarty, of Belen, as the 2015 state diplomats. Also on the state leadership team are ambassadors Bobbie Woodall and Elisa Davidson, both of Las Cruces, and Nicky Litherland, of Las Vegas.

The senior 4-H members will share the ambassador and diplomat responsibilities, which include assisting with livestock shows at the New Mexico State Fair, planning and conducting the 2014 senior leadership retreat and assisting with the State 4-H Conference.

They will also attend an Arizona team leadership camp, "Journey: Opportunities for Leaders of Tomorrow," and assist the New Mexico 4-H Youth Foundation in contacting donors and with public relations.

The two four-person teams were selected from applicants judged on their presentation on recruiting sponsors and how they performed during a group project.

"To me, 4-H is a way to put yourself out there and meet new people," Lowe said. "You learn important life skills and have fun while doing it."

Lowe wanted to be on the state leadership team to be in a position to make a difference. She has served as her club president and reporter.

"I apply what I have learned in 4-H to my life every day," she said. "I use communication and leadership skills as well as listening skills at school and during other activities."

Lowe plans to attend New Mexico State University to major in equine science and English.
