The Burnt Fire was detected last night near Sheep Mountain in the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Areas on the Wilderness Ranger District. A reconnaissance today confirmed the fire 9 miles east of Upper Black Canyon Campground and is approximately 20 acres.
Forest Service managers have evaluated the values at risk which include threatened and endangered species such as Gila Trout and Mexican Spotted Owls, fire fighter and public safety and decided to manage this incident for multiple objectives. The multiple objectives include reduction of hazardous fuels and forest health.
The fire will be monitored from various lookouts and reconnaissance flights.
The Rocky Fire, three miles north of the Rocky Canyon Campground near Forest Road 150, was detected by an Arizona Conservation Corps trail crew this afternoon. The fire is approximately -+ mile off the road and is outside the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Area. The trail crew departed from the area and resumed work at another location. Access to the fire is low rolling terrain. Significant late afternoon cloud cover is assisting the fire fighters on site. The fire is approximately 15 acres.
The Stitzel Fire 8 miles north of San Lorenzo was first reported Wednesday following a lightning storm. Resources were dispatched as the fire was adjacent to private lands in the Mimbres Valley. Significant cloud cover assisted the fire fighters today in stopping forward progression. 50 acres burned. Crews are mopping up the fire.
