Mimbres, NM; November 30, 2011-The Wilderness Ranger District of the Gila National Forest plans to burn slash piles beginning Monday, December 5, 2011, and continuing through the fall and winter as weather permits.
Objective of the prescribed pile burning is to remove piles left from fuels reduction thinning projects in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. These slash piles include logs, bark, branches, stumps, and brush.
Location of the WUI pile burning areas include:
• North of the Mimbres River on Forest Road 4206-I and H-Fraggel Rock area.
Township 15S, Range 11W, Section 31.
• Next to the Wilderness Ranger District office, in the horse pasture on the west side of
NM Highway 35. Township 16S, Range 11W, Section 7.
• Behind 3-Circles Subdivision, north of NM Highway 35 and east of Camp Thunderbird.
Township 15S, Range 12W, Section 25 & 36.
Firefighting personnel will be overseeing and monitoring the project.
Smoke may be visible during early morning and evening hours but is expected to decrease significantly as daytime temperatures increase.
