The Concert Band of the Southwest, conducted by David Kendrick, will present its "Spring Soloists Concert" , March 23, 2016, at the Cobre High School Auditorium. The concert begins at 7:00 pm; doors open at 6:30 pm. Seating is open and all seats are free. Donations for our sheet music library and expenses are gratefully accepted. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, so if you need a donor letter for your taxes, just let us know.
Concert Band of the Southwest will perform Norman Leyden's "Serenade For a Picket Fence", featuring guest soloist Dr. Michael Armendariz. Dr. Armendariz graduated from Cobre High School in 2002 and was a member of the Indian Pride Band. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from New Mexico State University and completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance at Michigan State University. Dr. Armendariz is currently the Technical Director for the NMSU Music Department and coordinates the Music Business Program, in addition to teaching music theory, music history and percussion at NMSU, he is also the Atkinson Recital Hall stage manager and is an active performer as a percussionist. Dr. Armendariz will also be performing a solo piece "Marimba Spiritual" by Minoru Mik+
