Silver City, NM - The Silver City Community Theater will perform a staged reading of Neil Simon's well-known comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at the Silver City Woman's Club, located at 411 Silver Heights Blvd. The event will start at 6:00 PM with a fish fry and pulled pork dinner, followed by the staged reading at 7:00 PM.

The play, set in the sexual revolution of the late 1960s, is about middle-aged married restaurateur Barney Cashman and his quest to free himself from the dreariness of everyday life by planning an extramarital affair, or as he thinks of it, an interlude of romance and beauty. He interviews his three wildly dissimilar candidates, one at a time, in his mother's Manhattan apartment.

Because of its universal theme of the well-intentioned foolishness of mankind, the play has been performed by countless theater groups, and was made into a movie starring Alan Arkin, Sally Kellerman, Paula Prentiss, and Renee Taylor. This SCCT production utilizes a simple stage with actors who will read the script and have rehearsed their roles under the directorship of Wendy Spurgeon, who also performs one of the roles. The other veteran actors are Bruce Wilson, Linda Browning, and Hallie Harris.

Tickets will be available at the Jumping Cactus, Javalina, Tranquil Buzz, Vintage Fantasy, Vicki's Eatery, and Gila Hike & Bike, and at the Great Race tent at Old James Stadium on April 28th. Tickets are $20.00, include the dinner and play reading. and should be bought in advance. For more information, call (575) 519-8375 or email presrub@gmail.com. The SCCT website is silvercitycommunitytheater.com.

The time is ripe for some comedy! Please come join the SCCT group for a lively evening of fun.
