Get all of your holiday shopping done from the safety and comfort of your home by shopping online at Downtown Silver City Cash Mobs. Organized by Silver City MainStreet, the cash mobs started in the Raton MainStreet district as a way to help businesses through the pandemic. Now six New Mexico MainStreet districts are hosting the virtual shopping events.

The virtual shopping events are held online using facebook live. Merchants have the opportunity to showcase 50 of their items for sale. Shoppers watch the event and use the comment section to shop. Volunteers track the comment section to record purchases and the merchant reaches out to the shopper the next day to arrange pick up or shipping.

“Silver City MainStreet is so excited to provide a venue for some of our downtown merchants to sell this holiday season, states Carmon Steven, board treasurer of Silver City MainStreet. Cash mobs have been very successful in other MainStreet communities. It’s a great way to support our local businesses.”

Brenda Tozier, Silver City MainStreet Administrative Assistant will be hosting the Cash Mobs and states, “I’m looking forward to hosting these events that will be fun to shop especially since it is helping our local businesses during the pandemic. We will have a professional videographer film the event. We also have volunteers to track the sales. There is a whole team that is working together to support the merchants and we will be promoting on social media. I think people will be surprised to see all of the unique gifts available right here in town.”

The first Cash Mob will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 5 to 7 pm at Dandelion Wish. They have an eclectic collection of antiques. Tozier states, “We think residents will be surprised by the number of unique fun collectibles Dandelion Wish offers. There are definitely some very nice Christmas gifts to purchase.”

The second Cash Mob will be held November 13, 2020 from 5 to 7 pm at Morning Star. Lynn Mondello of Morning Star states, “We are excited to do the cash mob because it will give people the opportunity to shop local from their homes. We will also have curbside pick-up available for those who would prefer to pick up their shopping outside.”
