Silver City, NM, August 28, 2022----Zia Davis, the new program specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) will deliver a presentation at the September 6 PFLAG Silver City meeting, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan.  The public is invited, and packaged refreshments will be served. As the meeting is indoors, PFLAG requests that masks be worn to protect vulnerable people.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is a non-profit organization that creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community, BBBS is accountable for each child in the program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors and educational success.

Zia Davis is a New Mexico native who recently came back to Silver City. Her background is in education, especially social, emotional, and holistic education. She is a mom, wife, and queer advocate and is happy to have the opportunity to give back to her community as the new program specialist at Big Brothers Big Sisters in Grant and Luna Counties.

“I’m delighted that Zia will be sharing information about BBBS at our September meeting.  I’ve been a Big Sister for almost three years, and my Little Sister is a joy. Being a mentor has taught me so much about the positive effect of caring adults,” Damie Nelson, president of PFLAG Silver City, shared.
