KURU GGCandice Burke, host of Community Spotlight and a member of the Board of Directors of GMCR, interviews Ted Tufares of LGBTQ Grant County at Give Grandly 2023, while Station Manager Marcus Hanson oversees the booth and remote broadcast system. On the day of Give Grandly, May 4, 2024, live interviews with representatives of the more than 60 participating organizations will be aired all day by Gila/Mimbres Community Radio (GMCR.org) and KURU 89.1 FM. Throughout the day, live KURU DJs will curate music at the event at Main Street Plaza in Silver City, at Seventh and North Bullard Streets.

“We invite everyone to stop by the GMCR/KURU booth at the Give Grandly in-person event 9-2 on Saturday, May 4,” said Marcus Hanson, Station Manager. “Meet our DJs and Program Hosts, Board members, and volunteers.

Whether you’re on the scene at Main Street Plaza, listening to the radio on 89.1 FM, or streaming at GMCR.org on the Internet, you can get acquainted with organizations that provide vital services and advocacy to Grant County, to help inform your decisions for giving. If you’re at the event, you can watch us in action. You’ll see how our remote broadcasts bring community events right to your home, workplace, or vehicle, as they happen.”

According to an announcement, the station’s aim is to support Give Grandly by encouraging the community to continue the tradition of generosity that has made this event a major source of funds for local organizations in past years. “This great event energizes and sustains grassroots initiatives that make our region such an enjoyable, culturally rich, and supportive place to live all year round,” said Jamie Newton, Chair of the GMCR Board.

GMCR and KURU 89.1 FM broadcast 24/7, offering music, news and public affairs, cultural and educational topics, and commentary, with both Spanish-language and English programs.
