"Arizona Wildlife Views" Honored with 8 Emmy Awards

The producers of the Arizona Game and Fish Department's television show, Arizona Wildlife Views, took home eight Emmy Awards from the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Carol Lynde, David Majure and Ben Avechuco each won an Emmy in the Environment Program category for an episode of Arizona Wildlife Views that featured the department's efforts to conserve the native humpback chub in the Colorado River, the Highway 93 bighorn sheep project, and banding bald eagles near Lake Mary.

The trio also took top honors in the Politics and Government Program category for "Glen Canyon Dam High Flow Release," which chronicled the effects of the dam on the ecosystem and fish populations in the Grand Canyon.

David Majure took home the Emmy in the Environment Program Segment category for "Tracking Tortoises" about the department's ongoing study of Sonoran desert tortoises.

Video production supervisor Carol Lynde won in the Human Interest Program Segment category for "Amazing Grace," the story of a raccoon that survived the Yarnell Hill fire.

"We're very proud of the video storytellers who capture the diversity and natural beauty, as well as the unique challenges of conserving Arizona's wildlife," said Larry Voyles, director of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. "Our dedicated production team showcases the department's efforts to manage some of the more than 800 species in Arizona, and these Emmy awards are proof of the exceptional work they do."

Arizona Wildlife Views is a 13-week half-hour original series hosted by Jim Paxon and produced by the Information Branch of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. It airs on Arizona PBS stations and city cable channels across the state. Full episodes and individual segments also can be viewed on the Game and Fish website at www.azgfd.gov/video.

The Game and Fish Department YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/azgfd) has almost every Arizona Wildlife Views show and segment. Visitors can 'subscribe,' and get an email alert every time a new Arizona Wildlife Views video comes online.
