The New Mexico Film Office Announces "Gold" To Film In New Mexico

SANTA FE -New Mexico Film Office director Nick Maniatis announced today that the feature film "Gold," produced by Black Bear Pictures and HWY61, will be filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, along with locations in Thailand and New York.

Starring Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey ("Dallas Buyers Club," "Interstellar"), Golden Globe nominated Edgar Ramirez ("The Bourne Ultimatum," "Carlos"), and Academy Award nominated Michelle Williams ("My Week with Marilyn," "Brokeback Mountain"), the drama will be directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan ("Syriana," "Traffic").

The movie's producers are Teddy Schwarzman ("The Imitation Game," "All Is Lost"), Michael Nozik ("Syriana," "The Motorcycle Diaries"), and McConaughey. The screenplay was written by Patrick Massett ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," "Friday Night Lights") and John Zinman ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," "Friday Night Lights"), who will also serve as producers. The executive producers are Paul Haggis ("Crash," "Million Dollar Baby"), Benjamin Stillman, and Richard Middleton ("The Artist," "I Love You Phillip Morris"). Key members of the production team include director of photography Robert Elswit ("There Will Be Blood"), production designer Maria Djurkovic ("The Imitation Game"), and costume designer Danny Glicker ("Milk").

"Albuquerque welcomes the feature 'Gold' to our city. We continue to support the movie industry, and the movie industry continues to support our local economy; it's a great thing for everyone," said Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry.

The production will employ at least 150 New Mexico crew members, 17 New Mexico actors, and approximately 1,350 New Mexico background talent. Filming will take place in the Albuquerque area from mid-August to mid-September.

"Gold" is the story of Kenny Wells, a modern-day prospector, hustler, and dreamer, desperate for a lucky break. Left with few options, Wells teams up with an equally luckless geologist to execute a grandiose, last-ditch effort: to find gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.

"Gold" will be distributed in the United States by The Weinstein Co.
