The contemporary music stage is the best after party of the weekend.

The 2017 Gathering of Nations Stage 49 is looking forward to a new venue this year and more room to dance than ever before at the Powwow Grounds at Expo New Mexico.

Stage 49 is the contemporary music showcase for the Gathering of Nations, North America's largest Pow-Wow. This year, 35 artists will perform on April 28 and 29.

"Stage 49 features a lineup of the hottest Native American and Indigenous bands, from comedy to country and rock to reggae. This year we are including a fashion showcase by Twindian Designs, Inkari Runa from Ecuador, South America and one of Rolling Stone Magazine's 66th greatest guitarist of all time, Vernon Reid of the 90's rock band Living Colour who will perform with several New Mexico musicians," said Melissa Sanchez from Emergence Productions and Gathering of Nations Powwow. "Stage 49 entertainers are a musical crossroads of top talent."

Some of the headliners this year include:

Vernon Reid from the band Living Colour will be performing at GON with local musicians. Reid was named number 66 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 2004 list of Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

DJ Logic is a New York-based DJ who has worked to blend jazz and hip hop and has collaborated with Reid as the Yohimbe Brothers.

Nahko and Medicine For The People recently released their second album HOKA. These "thump-hop" pioneers bring hip hop grooves to the jam band world.

Stateline is back for its second appearance at the Gathering of Nations. The band's signature song "Ayoo Inish'I (I Love You)," is sung entirely in the Navajo Language. .

Stage 49 admission is included in general admission Gathering of Nations Powwow tickets.

Established in 2008, Stage 49 is a full production stage at the Gathering of Nations Powwow featuring Native American and Indigenous traditional and contemporary artists in various genres. As an international premiere venue, Stage 49 is instrumental in launching new and showcasing established talent. A "49" is a powwow term for an after-powwow casual get together in an impromptu location. Powwow dancers and singers come together to sing old "49" songs and create new songs.
