Tucumcari, NM – Back for its eighth year of Fire, Food and Fun, the 2018 Fired Up Community Festival in Tucumcari, New Mexico takes place on Saturday, September 29. The festival, which draws over 3,000 people, will be a day of celebrating the best of Tucumcari with food, entertainment, arts, vendors, music and more. The highlights include performers interacting with fire, the OddLab dance troupe and fireworks.

"The Fired Up Festival is a favorite of both residents and visitors, as it showcases not only the best of Tucumcari in all categories, but it also captures the essence of Eastern New Mexico culture," said Tucumcari Mayor Ruth Ann Litchfield. "In addition to the fan-favorite events that previous attendees have come to know and love, this year we'll be including the first-ever Chili Challenge — with both red and green options. This year's event is sure to be one of a kind, and we encourage all to come see what Tucumcari has to offer."

The festival, which is free and open to the public, kicks off at the Historic Railroad Depot Plaza. Starting at 2 p.m., there will be a Car & Motorcycle show held on Main Street, as well as live music from New Mexico country bands and professional mariachis. The fun continues with kid's contests, dancing, local food, arts and crafts and clothing vendors, and more, all along the Main & 2nd Street corridor. Along with contests, kids will delight in visiting the "Kids Corner," complete with games, activities and a 4-H Rocket Building area.

In addition to a variety of events, the 4th Annual Fired Up Quilt Show has expanded and will have two locations this year. Both will be open for two days — starting at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
