Six years in the making, the epic 15-hour film THE WAR, a 7-part documentary series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, explores the history and horror of the Second World War from an American perspective by following the fortunes of so-called ordinary men and women who become caught up in one of the greatest cataclysms in human history.

Narrated by actor Liev Schreiber, this program shares the remarkable account of James (Jim) Schmidt's World War II service and military career, and his grandson’s efforts to generate interest in his grandfather's war journey via social media. It charts a story of service that began in a movie theater in 1942 and ends in the jungles of Vietnam more than 2 decades later.

Shot primarily in England and France, this program documents the story of one of the last living survivors of a major World War II military tragedy, and two secrets that he kept for decades.

On February 23, 1942, following America's first heavy bomber offensive raid of World War II, a bullet-riddled U.S. B-17E bomber crash-landed in a remote swamp in Papua New Guinea. The crew of 9 survived, but the mostly intact Flying Fortress was left behind and lost for decades. In 1972, it was spotted, partially submerged and "eerily untouched," earning it the nickname "Swamp Ghost."

STELLA - A HISTORY OF WAR

Stella Andrassy fled the Red Army invasion of Hungary in 1945. Born in Sweden, she married into one of Hungary's most influential families. Her world torn apart from the war, she wrote a book about her experiences. The film is based on Stella's own narrative with perspective on the fate of women including abuse and suffering, but also of solidarity, courage and hope.

RISE OF THE NAZIS – New 3-part series – 11/10 – 11/24

See how Adolf Hitler and the Nazis rise to power. In 1930, Germany is a liberal democracy.

Just four years later, democracy is dead, Germany’s leader is a dictator and the government is in the hands of the Nazis.

A New Mexico PBS Production – A 2-part story within one episode.

Segment 1 - Robert F. Jefferson Jr. (Asst. Professor, African American Studies Dept., UNM) shares his deep passion for the African American experience in United States Military History. He uncovers and shares stories of courage, valor and lessons for hope.

Segment 2 - A Memoir of Courage - Reuben Fraser’s uncle, Jesse Fraser, left him a memoir from his WWI experience. He recounted profound stories of equality he found in Europe. These stories gave Reuben a way forward in the struggle for racial equality in American.

Robert F. Jefferson Jr. shares how the Frasers inspire him to live by the courage of his convictions.
