Albuquerque, NM – February 18, 2021 – The Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico—an organization that provides New Mexico children and their families with free grief support groups—held their 15th annual Healing Hearts Event and Auction on February 12. Over 200 attendees participated and raised $24,978, which was generously matched by the Southwest Family Guidance Center.

“With one in ten New Mexico children experiencing the death of a parent or sibling by age eighteen, New Mexico ranks second in the nation for child bereavement,” said Jade Richardson Bock, Executive Director of the Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico. “As such, there is a pressing need for children’s grief support in our state. Because of the generosity and support of our donors and event attendees, we are able to continue providing life-changing programs for children across the state.”

Featuring stories from families who have gone through the program, as well as updates on future plans for the organization, the Healing Hearts event showcased the important role the organization has played in the lives of New Mexico youth, both prior to and during the pandemic. With the pandemic limiting in-person services and the ability to meet and grieve with others, the services of the organization have become even more vital to finding healing. In the last year, the Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico has provided services to 467 people in virtual support groups—222 adults and 245 children.

“We are beyond grateful for the incredible support our organization received during our Healing Hearts event,” added Richardson Bock. “Thanks to each of you, we can help children and their families to find hope and healing—especially during this difficult time we are all facing.”
