PNM Invests $1 Million in support of New Mexico High School Students
ability to pursue Electric Trade Programs and live and work in New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM - November 16, 2023 - PNM's $1 million will fund creating a high school trade program that will equip students with the necessary skills for a successful career in the electrical industry.

Working closely with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 611, PNM will partner with High Schools in areas it serves to develop and implement this exciting trade program. New Mexico students will be trained so they can meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the electrical industry.

"We are proud to partner with our local IBEW 611 to collectively provide opportunities for New Mexico high school students to pursue a meaningful career in our industry," said Don Tarry, President and Chief Executive Officer of PNM. "PNM has a deep connection to the educational sector in New Mexico, we are passionate about preparing students for a rewarding career in an exciting industry right here in our state."

"A lot of people talk about training our kids so they can stay in New Mexico and earn a good living.  Well, PNM is doing more than talking, they are doing it" said Mark Strand, IBEW Local 611 "I am very proud of the electric trades and this program will provide opportunities to high school students which traditionally they wouldn’t have had.”

The $1 million donation from PNM reflects the company's commitment to investing in the future of New Mexico and ensuring a well-prepared workforce for the evolving electrical industry. By providing students with skills training opportunities, PNM aims to foster a skilled workforce that will drive innovation and progress in the state. The targeted timeline for the electric trade programs to start is fall 2024.

“PNM’s investment to support high school students with improved pathways into electrical trades programs and high-quality careers is great news for New Mexico,” said CNM President Tracy Hartzler. “CNM looks forward to continuing our collaboration with PNM, one of our long-time partners in trades education, to help develop innovative opportunities for our young people so they can connect to quality careers and bright futures in the electrical trades. PNM’s investment will also help create a stronger workforce pipeline for the businesses and industries that need more electricians to support our state’s infrastructure and economic growth.”
