USDA Rural Development upcoming workshops in Las Cruces 071923

On behalf of USDA Rural Development state director Patricia Dominguez, the agency announces two free workshops to take place in Las Cruces on July 19, 2023 on how to apply for two of its grant funding programs.

These workshops will teach applicants of all skill levels how to be successful to receive financing from the agency. We are inviting; small businesses owners, solar providers, county and city administrators, nonprofits, and farmers to learn how to apply for the: 

• Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) which provides grant and loan funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements.

• Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) program which is a competitive grant designed to support the development or expansion of small private businesses in rural New Mexico.

DOH recommends clients of VIP Spa get tested for blood-borne infections

New HIV infections with direct/indirect connection with services provided by VIP Spa  
 
ALBUQUERQUE  – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) is reaching out to former clients of VIP Beauty Salon and Spa (VIP Spa), previously located at: 809 Tijeras Avenue, NW Suite B, Albuquerque, N.M. to recommend that anyone who received any type of injection-related service, including a vampire facial or Botox injections at the VIP Spa, come to the  South Valley Public Health office in Albuquerque for free and confidential HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C lab testing and counseling. Former VIP Spa clients should be retested even if they previously had a negative test. 
 
“It’s very important that we spread the word and remind people who received any kind of injection-related to services provided at the VIP Spa to come in for free and confidential testing,” said Dr. Laura Parajon, deputy secretary for DOH.

Traffic Alert I-25 southbound on-ramp overnight closure -July 5

 LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) along with San Bar Construction Corp. (Contractor) will be closing the I-25 southbound driving lane overnight for sign replacement.
The I-25 southbound driving lane will be closed from milepost 1 to 0 for sign replacement and installation. This closure will be in place nightly starting tonight, July 5, 2023, at 9 p.m. until Friday, July 7, 2023, at 5 a.m. Motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and watch for emergency personnel, and equipment. Please expect delays.

New cohort of tech startups join TechSprint program at NMSU

The Scale Up New Mexico program, funded in part by the United States Economic Development Administration and housed at New Mexico State University's Arrowhead Center, has announced a new cohort of startups for the fall 2023 TechSprint accelerator program.

Tech-based startups play a pivotal role in the economic development of New Mexico. By fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, these startups bring about job creation, attract investment and drive economic growth in the state. They contribute to the diversification of industries, particularly in the technology and high-tech sectors, which not only enhances the overall resilience of the economy but also provides opportunities for skilled workers.

"New Mexico's future lies in nurturing and empowering tech-based startups. By providing them with the necessary support and training, we can unleash their disruptive potential, propelling our state to the forefront of technological advancements and positioning us as a leading hub for innovation and economic prosperity," said Carlos Murguia, Scale Up NM program manager.

After a rigorous selection process, Scale Up NM has chosen 10 startups to participate in the program. The cohort of 10 tech-based startups consists of companies from different locations across New Mexico, all with a common goal of commercializing innovative technologies. These startups represent various industries, including educational technology, gaming, climate technology, assistive communication, military, health technology, biotech and outdoors, among others.

Governor names Hannah Riseley-White as Interstate Stream Commission Director

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Wednesday announced the appointment Hannah Riseley-White to lead the Interstate Stream Commission (ISC).

"Planning our water future has never been more important than it is today," said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. "Director Riseley-White brings experience and perspective to the office that will prove crucial to protecting our waters for future cultural, recreational, and economic use."

Riseley-White started at the Interstate Stream Commission in 2014 in the Pecos Bureau and was later selected to lead that bureau from 2017 to 2020. She served as the Deputy Director of the ISC since 2020. She holds a bachelor's degree in politics from New York University and a master's degree in water resources management from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at University of California at Santa Barbara.
