Holguin 04Raul Webb Holguin - June 6, 1925 - September 20, 2014 Raul W. Holguin, a resident of Tucson, AZ and a heavily decorated WWII veteran passed away peacefully from natural causes at the age of 89 on September 20, 2014. He was surrounded and comforted by his family and loved ones.

Raul was born June 5, 1925 in Silver City, NM. He was the oldest son to the late Manuel and Barbara Holguin. In March of 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army and fought throughout Europe during WWII. PFC Raul W. Holguin (then a Private in the Infantry, Company F bazooka gunner, 328th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division) was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action near Woelfling, France on 12 December 1944 by the direction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After the war, Raul went on to become a supervisor for the United States Post Office where he served proudly until his retirement in 1987.

Raul met his beautiful wife Connie shortly after returning home from the war, they married in May of 1950 and were happily married until his passing. They have four wonderful sons.

Raul loved to go camping, visiting with his friends, gardening, spending time with his pets and caring for other animals in need. Raul could be found every afternoon, reading the newspaper or in the garden. He had an amazing sweet tooth and treats were never in short Holguin 06supply for his grandchildren and guests.

Raul was a hardworking man even through retirement and taught his sons and grandchildren those same values. Raul was loved by many and will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Connie Holguin of Tucson, AZ; four sons, Michael Holguin of Tucson, AZ; Robert Holguin of Tucson, AZ; Mark Holguin of San Diego, CA; Daniel Holguin of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kaddi of Gilbert, AZ; Joseph Holguin of Las Vegas, NV; Gabriel and Angelina Holguin of Tucson, AZ; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Guerra of Silver City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Margaret Holguin; his siblings, Manuel Jr., Carmen and Sesaria.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 28 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, September 29 at 9:30am at St. Vincent Catholic Church with Father Anthony Basso officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery will full military honors. Pallbearers will be Mark, Danny and Robert Holguin, Dennis Moreno, Ed Kaddi and Henry Guerra. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 420 W. Market, Silver City, NM 88061.
